Nobody can say exactly which AI models will launch in 2027. But many dates are already set: model retirements, price changes, regulation deadlines and new controls for websites. This guide to what to expect from AI in 2027 lists the confirmed dates first, then the trends they point to.
Confirmed dates for the rest of 2026
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| 17 November 2026 | Google Gems move to the Settings panel of the Gemini app, as skills replace them |
| 30 November 2026 | Claude Sonnet 4.5 retires on the Claude API, and fast mode for Claude Opus 4.8 is removed |
| After 30 November 2026 | Gemini 4 Argon’s API price rises from US$2 and US$10 to US$4 and US$20 per million tokens |
| December 2026 | The EU’s ban on AI “nudification” apps starts to apply |
If you run anything on Claude Sonnet 4.5 or Gemini 4 Argon, now is the time to retest and update your budget. The recommended replacement for Sonnet 4.5 is Claude Sonnet 5.5.

| 1 March 2027 | Bing stops reading NoArchive and NoCache as AI preferences |
| 1 March 2027 at the earliest | Gems stop working in Google Workspace business editions and convert to draft skills |
| During 2027 | Google aims to support a shared robots.txt signal for opting out of AI training |

New AI controls for your website
The biggest change for website owners is a clearer split between two kinds of AI use:
- Training: using your content to build future AI models.
- Grounding: using your pages to answer a question right now, often with a link back to you.
On 30 October, Google and OpenAI both said they will support a shared robots.txt signal for AI training, based on IETF work. Bing has introduced separate settings for training and for grounding. Both default to “allow” if you set nothing.
For most businesses, grounding is the one to protect. Bing says blocking grounding reduces brand visibility in AI experiences. If you use NoArchive or NoCache tags today, review them before 1 March 2027. Read more in Google AI Mode in 2026.
Rules and regulation
The EU AI Act became applicable on 2 August 2026, with some exceptions. The “AI Omnibus” amendment entered into force on 27 July 2026. It moved the high-risk rules to 2 December 2027 and 2 August 2028. Businesses that use AI for hiring, education or other high-risk purposes in the EU have more time, but the obligations remain.
Singapore launched a Model AI Governance Framework for Agentic AI on 22 January 2026 and published an updated version on 20 May. It gives guidance on deploying AI agents responsibly.
Announced, with no date yet
- Gemini 4 Carbon: Google plans wider access “as soon as possible”.
- One Claude for Team and Free plans: the merged chat and Cowork experience will follow “soon” after Pro, Max and Ultra.
- Siri AI: Chinese (Traditional), Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese by the end of 2026.
The trends behind the dates
These are our reading of where 2026 was heading. They are trends, not promises.
Agents will do more work on their own
In 2026, assistants started running tasks without someone watching. Google’s Gemini agent can create “coworker agents” with their own Workspace accounts. OpenAI introduced dots, proactive assistants that keep working across projects. Anthropic opened a research preview of Claude Duet, a proactive agent app. We expect this to become a normal part of office software in 2027. Capable AI will keep getting cheaper
Prices fell across the board this year. Claude Opus 5.5 launched at US$4 and US$20 per million tokens, below Opus 5’s US$5 and US$25. GPT-6.1 Sol costs one-fifth of GPT-6 Astra’s API prices. Claude Haiku 5.5 costs around 75% less to run than Haiku 4.5. Tasks that are too costly to automate today may be affordable within months.
Search will keep moving towards answers and actions
Google AI Mode passed one billion monthly users in May 2026. In the US, people can now book hotels in AI Mode and gather items from several stores in one cart with Google’s Universal Cart. Being clearly described, trusted and easy to cite online will matter more each year.
Models will change faster than workflows
Expect several model upgrades from each provider in 2027. Businesses that build workflows able to switch models will benefit from each release without starting again.
How to prepare for AI in 2027
- Check which models your tools use and note any retirement dates.
- Review your website’s AI settings before the new controls take effect in 2027.
- Pick one process to automate and build it so the model can be swapped later.
