From December, ChatGPT and Codex will draw from one shared usage allowance on Plus, Pro and Business plans. Gemini in Google Slides can now also rework a whole deck from one prompt.
How will ChatGPT and Codex usage limits work from December?
Usage on Plus, Pro and Business plans will be shared across ChatGPT and Codex. It will be measured in tokens, so more advanced models and complex tasks generally use more of the allowance. Instant chat will not count towards it.
OpenAI expects most users will not wait for resets more often than they do now. Combined usage and reset times will show in Settings → Usage. At the limit, you can wait for the reset, upgrade or buy credits.
Who it affects: teams on Plus, Pro or Business plans, most of all those who use Codex for coding and ChatGPT for everyday work. A long Codex session could leave less for chat later in the day.
What to do:
- After the change, check Settings → Usage for a week to see who uses the most.
- Use Instant for quick questions, since it does not draw from the allowance.
- Decide in advance who may buy extra credits, so costs do not grow unnoticed.
What can Gemini now do in Google Slides?
Gemini in Slides can now revise several slides, or a whole presentation, from one prompt in the side panel. It can refresh styles, update content using files from Drive, and combine or expand slides. Changes can be undone or reverted through version history.
The rollout started on 29 October and may take more than 15 days to reach everyone. It works in English only for now, and there is no admin setting to turn it off. Google gives higher promotional limits until at least 1 December 2026, after which per-user limits apply.
Who it affects: teams on Google Workspace Business Standard or Plus, Enterprise Standard or Plus, and Google AI Pro or Ultra.
What to do:
- Use it for jobs like moving a sales or pitch deck to new branding, or updating figures across many slides.
- Check every number Gemini pulls from Drive before the deck goes out.
- Try it before 1 December, while the higher limits apply.
What this means for your business
- Watch usage, not just seats. OpenAI is moving its plans to one shared, token-based allowance. On a team, heavy users can now affect what the rest of the team has left.
- Keep a person on the final check. Tools that edit a whole deck or document at once save time, but one wrong figure can now spread to every slide.
- Note the dates below. Each one changes limits, prices or rules in tools many teams already use.
Dates to watch
- 12 November 2026: Anthropic’s updated Usage Policy takes effect. High-risk uses in areas such as health, legal and finance still need a qualified person to review Claude’s recommendations, and people affected must be told AI was used.
- 1 December 2026: Higher promotional limits for Gemini in Slides run until at least this date.
- December 2026: ChatGPT and Codex start sharing one usage allowance.
